ONLY ON 3: Woman also charged with sex crimes against 14-year-old girl

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Last month a man who claimed he was dying of terminal cancer was arrested for allegedly having sexual relations with a 14-year-old girl. Now a Wallace woman is also behind bars for sex crimes with the same victim.

Pender County Sheriff’s Det. S.A. Clinard says it all started on Facebook, where he says Ralph Smith contacted the 14-year-old victim and eventually invited her into his home.

“They were people who do nothing but prey on kids who are vulnerable, and that’s one of these cases right here,” Clinard said.

Clinard says Smith introduced the 14-year-old victim to Laura Marie Grabowski, 30, who is also known as Laura Marie Anderson.

“This involves a sexual contact that Ms. Anderson and Mr. Smith had with the victim at the same time on two different occasions,” Clinard said.

Grabowski faces two counts of statutory sex offense, and two counts indecent liberties with a child.

Smith is charged with six counts of statutory sex offense, three counts of indecent liberties with a child

Clinard says the victim is doing well, but he urges young people to be cautious when it comes to social networking.

“They need to be extremely careful who they are talking to and what information they put out there,” he said. “We have boys and girls who spill, they put their entire life out for the entire world to see. Even when you protect some information, people can get access to it.”
