Winner announced in ugly website contest

The winners have been announced for the ugliest website contest – Communities in Schools of Cape Fear. The local non-profit organization focuses on keeping kids in school and reducing the drop out rate.

Wilmington Design Company sponsored a three-month long contest to find the ugliest site on the internet. Communities in Schools Program Director, Lisa Brewster, submitted their website after the old one got hacked into. “It’s a dubious distinction to have your website bite, but we’re really serious about making sure that all the information about our agency is in the public that we can educate people about our services to youth, and about volunteer opportunities, what we do here as a non-profit,” she said. “We’re really excited about having a real quality website.”

Communities in Schools won a free website make-over worth $5,000. Wilmington Design Company said it will take a couple months to complete the makeover.

The runner-up is the website for Haunted Pub Crawl in downtown Wilmington. They will be awarded a sack of lemons.
