Inmates at Brunswick County Jail not contagious, on antibiotics

Brunswick County health officials are trying to keep tuberculosis under lock and key at the county jail. After a former inmate tested positive for the infection, more than four hundred other inmates and employees were tested.

Thirty-three tested positive, but they are not contagious. Tuberculosis is only considered infectious, and active, if it reaches the lungs.

On Monday, those people started antibiotics to keep the infection at bay.
