Kids take part in Safe Summer Program, interact with deputies
Kids had the chance Tuesday to interact with sheriff’s deputies out of uniform. The Safe Summer Program kicked off at Hugh MacRae Park. All week, deputies tag along with 50 kids to various activities.
The idea is to show them how to have a fun summer without drugs and violence, and is geared toward rising 6th graders who excelled in the DARE program. “It just keeps them out of the boredom of summer and great involvement with us – law enforcement. It lets them see that we are good guys, that we can fun and be crazy. It’s just an excellent program,” said Sheriff Ed McMahon.
During the week, kids will tour the sheriff’s department to learn about crime prevention and take a few field trips.
