Sunset Beach police looking for fake cop

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Sunset Beach police chief is looking for a man posing as one of his officers.

According to a release from the town, police were told a man approached a woman on April 4 and identified himself as Sunset Beach Patrol. The woman told police the impersonator told her she couldn’t have her dog on a leash on the beach and he wanted her name and information to write a citation. The woman, knowing she wasn’t in violation, didn’t give the man any info and called police.

The man is described as a white male in his late 20s to early 30s with short dark hair and average height and weight. Anyone who has seen the man or had similar encounters should contact the Sunset Beach Police Department.
