Four rescued from jetty near Fort Fisher
FORT FISHER, NC (WWAY) — The Coast Guard says it rescued four people Saturday off a jetty near the Fort Fisher Ferry Terminal.
The Coast Guard got a report at approximately 3:50 p.m. that two men were stuck on the rock jetty trapped by high tide.
A boat from Coast Guard Station Oak Island launched at about 10 minutes later, the Coast Guard said, and arrived on scene along with security personnel from Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point at 4:12 p.m. The crew found the two men along with a father and son good Samaritans. The good Samaritans tried a rescue the other men in their 14-foot boat, when their own boat overturned. The Coast Guard and Sunny Point crews worked together to bring the four people aboard the Coast Guard’s 29-foot rescue boat and took them to the ferry terminal.
“We were fortunate today’s incident turned out without any injuries, and we were glad to see other good Samaritans are ready to help,” Petty Officer 2nd Class Hayden O’Neil said in a news release. “While people do utilize the local rock wall, we ask that they are mindful of the weather and tidal schedule if they are going out.”
