UNCW student dies in fall after fight


WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Police Department is investigating the death of a man over the weekend.

A WPD spokeswoman said that around 4:45 a.m. Saturday, officers responded to 5006 Carleton Drive. They said Connor Vogel, 22, fell and died after a fight. There’s no word on who else was involved or whether any charges will be filed.

Monday morning, a spokeswoman with UNCW sent the following statement:

Dear UNCW Community,

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Connor Vogel, a junior majoring in computer science, passed away this weekend following an accident off-campus. He grew up in Wilmington and attended both Hoggard High School and Cape Fear Community College. Service details will be shared on the UNCW website pending confirmation.

UNCW community members are encouraged to stop by the Fisher Student Center Information Desk to sign Connor’s memorial book, which will be sent to his family. Students seeking grief support may contact the University Counseling Center at 962-3746.

We’re also told he graduated from Coastal Christian High School.
