Mobile Vet Center comes to the Cape Fear

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — The Mobile Vet Center is offering information, direction and even some on site services to veterans who may not be able to veterans who may not be able to reach their nearest veteran services officer.

WWII Rudolph Grasso says they were very helpful in answering his questions.
“It’s always good to meet more veterans… Talk with veterans, you know,” Grasso said.

What’s a hot topic among these vets? …the VA.

Pender County’s veterans service officer Warren Hall says seeing what goes on behind the scenes is frustrating.

“The medical center that’s where we encounter a lot of problems,” Warren said.
“Because I have to direct these veterans to show these clinicians the rules and policies they have to follow, I’m actually kind of afraid to get care there myself.”

Grasso says he’s had good experiences and bad.

“From one to 100… About 75%. There’s problems,” Grasso said.

“There’s some systemic issues and there’s some corruption. It’s frustrating, it’s saddening… Sometimes I’ll cry for that matter.”

But he says it provides him with the ammunition he says he needs to move forward in every way he can for veterans and their families and helping them is what this Mobile Vet Center is all about.
