NEW DETAILS: 911 call released in deadly Brunswick Co. crash

SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — Folks with the school system say grief counsellors have made their way to West Brunswick High School to help friends and family affected by the accident.

Now, we're hearing from the driver of the vehicle moments after the deadly crash.

The wreck killed his friend and fellow West Brunswick High School JROTC member Tyrus Johnston.

Dispatch has released audio from the 9-1-1 call. You can hear 17-year-old Joshua Coleman frantic and confused calling 9-1-1 for help.

COLEMAN: Please, we have people that's in the truck. Hurry!

911: Alright, has the vehicle been overturned?

COLEMAN: Yes, we're upside down. I've broken my arm.

Troopers say he and seven of his friends were on a late night ride when Coleman lost control of the truck.

COLEMAN: This goes with me for the rest of my life … I fell asleep… I couldn't handle it.

Troopers say based on the lack of skid marks on the asphalt, it did not appear to be a breaking wreck. Coleman drifted out of his lane into a ditch flipping his truck and pinning one of the passengers.

COLEMAN: There's some in the bed, some inside. They're all injured. Everyone's injured.

911: Alright, some were in the bed. Were they thrown?

COLEMAN: I don't know sir, I have no clue.

Troopers say all the passengers suffered life threatening injuries. 17-year-old Tyrus Johnston, 17-year-old Anthony Groves and 16-year-old Selena Utter were sitting in the truck bed. Johnston was pinned under the truck, he later died at grand strand medical center.
