WPD investigating after officers find blood in roadway, victim at hospital
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say ShotSpotter led them to a crime scene where officers found blood and evidence in the road, before later discovering a victim in the hospital.
Wilmington Police say they got an alert for shots fired in the area of Orange and S. 14th streets around 11 p.m. yesterday. That’s where they say officers found blood-spatter, sandals and sunglasses at the scene, but no victim or shell casings.
They say witnesses who were nearby told officers there was a fight in the street before they heard gunfire. Police say when they went to the hospital to see if any victims showed up there, they discovered a man who told them he was pistol-whipped by another man in the street.
Police say since the victim’s story was different from what witnesses at the scene reported to officers, WPD is still investigating.
