Getting pampered at a fraction of the cost

A day at the salon can cost hundreds of dollars if you get a facial, manicure, pedicure, massage and hair cut; but not necessarily. At The College of Wilmington Cosmetology School, you can get a manicure and pedicure package for only fifteen dollars. That was a deal for Juanita Bullard. “It is a good deal for me, because I’m on a fixed income and I watch my pennies.”

Up the road at Miller-Motte College, the hair styling clinic is in full swing. They offer the same services as a professional salon, at a cost of about 75 percent less. A cut and style here is only ten dollars, highlights range from 22 to 30 dollars.

“It takes a little longer, but it’s worth it. Its a win-win. Its an advantage for me because I don’t spend as much money,” said Kaila Malpass.

Miller-Motte’s massage clinic has 5,000 clients who take advantage of the one hour massage for thirty dollars, or one of the many other body treatments offered.

After a manicure, pedicure, facial, or massage you can’t forget about your teeth. CFCC’s dental clinic offers checkups, which includes cleaning and fluoride for $15. You can also get panoramic x-rays for $15.

“It saves a lot of money,” said dental clinic patient Glenda Norton. “It’s just economical it helps me, and I come once a year. This is my 2nd year.”

Now that’s something to smile about, because after all, isn’t saving money beautiful?

The College of Wilmington, Miller-Motte and Cape Fear Community College all offer cosmetology services. There are quite a few other services available as well, but you should call for an appointment.
