Blog raising money for Color Wall at NC State
RALEIGH — The writer of a Raleigh blog has started a campaign to refurbish the Color Wall at North Carolina State University.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Monday that the wall with its hundreds of vertical bands of shifting color was installed in 1972 behind huge windows at the school’s D.H. Hill Library.
The 12-foot by 36-foot display is dark because of outdated mechanical switches.
Karl E. Larson blogs about local history for Goodnight, Raleigh!. He’s trying to raise $6,000 to refurbish the wall.
The university had planned to refurbish the light sculpture. But the director of communications for the university libraries says now isn’t a good time to spend money on the wall. David Hiscoe says that’s because of the state budget crisis, which is causing N.C. state employees to lose their jobs.
