HAPPENING TONIGHT: DOT hosts public meeting on Leland traffic

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Drivers frustrated by the traffic in Leland will have the chance to sound off tonight.

The NC Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Leland Middle School.

The DOT met with local leaders earlier this month to talk about potential fixes to traffic problems during the widening project on the causeway between Leland and Wilmington. That project won’t be finished for more than two years.

The construction has not changed the number of lanes heading in and out of Wilmington on US 17/74/76, but it has shifted and narrowed them. High volume is also leading to congestion. That’s why the causeway is being widened to begin with.
