NC sheriff to discuss town’s law enforcement

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina sheriff is holding a news conference to discuss law enforcement coverage and recent arrests in a local town.

Cumberland County Sheriff Earl R. Butler will hold the news conference at the Law Enforcement Center in Fayetteville. He will discuss law enforcement in the town of Spring Lake and recent
arrests in connection with armed robberies.

Sheriff’s deputies have handled law enforcement for the town since early May, when a judge effectively stripped the department of its remaining powers after the arrests of two supervising officers.

The former chief resigned, and the SBI is investigating the department.
