Wrightsville Beach eyeing a new bike path
The town of Wrightsville Beach is one step closer to implementing a new bike plan. The plan calls for a bike path that would stretch from the Cape Fear River to the Jonnie Mercer’s Pier.
Tuesday night town officials passed a resolution in support of moving forward with the plan. Now all they need is support from residents and some grant money.
Town Mayor Stephen Whalen said the town has been trying to get a new bike plan for nearly twenty years. He said this is the closest they have been for some time, but it is still far from a done deal.
“Once we know the amount of the grant, then I think the pieces will start to fall into place, and we’ll be able to determine exactly what we can do and how we can do it and where we can do it, cost, and all that,” Mayor Whalen said.
Details about the plan will be presented in a public hearing on September 10th.
