Ban on automated calls takes effect Tuesday
Beginning Tuesday, you can expect fewer phone calls from telemarketers. A federal ban on automated, or robocalls, went into effect today.
Before today, you had to be on the Do Not Call registry to be free from those types of calls.
Telemarketers who violate the rules will face fines up to $16,000 a call, but there are some exceptions.
Calls that provide information, such as reminding you about a flight, are still allowed. As are calls from debt collectors, local charities, politicians, banks and phone companies.
