Deputy acted within the law in Brunswick County shooting

District Attorney Rex Gore said a Brunswick County Sheriff’s deputy acted within the law when he shot and killed a man he was attempting to arrest.

Alton Lawrence Walters was killed in the shooting.

Authorities said Deputy Bradley Hardee was trying to arrest him during a domestic disturbance. Hardee tried using his taser on Walters, but Walters kept coming towards him.

The DA said Deputy Hardee shot Walters when he was within arm’s reach of the officer’s gun.
