Local food bank crowdfunding to keep up with demand

HAMPSTEAD, NC (WWAY) — A Pender County food bank is raising money through a crowdfunding site to keep up with growing demand in the community.

Master’s Table Food Bank in Hampstead opened in 2014 to feed the hungry in the area. In its first year alone, organizers say they helped feed more than 6,200 families. They say they provide food right now to an average of 150 families per week.

Master’s Table has partnered with WoodmenLife Chapter 1483 in Hampstead to run an online fundraising campaign through Redbasket.org. The free crowdfunding website is sponsored by WoodmenLife. The fundraising goal is $20,000.

Organizers say the money will be used to purchase food for Master’s Table. They estimate that it cost around $400 a week to be able to serve everyone without turning anyone away.
