FIRST ON 3: Charges upgraded in deadly pedestrian-involved crash

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The woman accused of killing a man standing next to his car is facing new charges.

The crash happened earlier this month when investigators said a pizza delivery driver hit a man on Morningside Drive. Police said the driver, Brittany Boddiford, was reaching for her phone when the crash happened.

Boddiford was initially charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, other traffic violations and a marijuana charge. A spokeswoman with the office of District Attorney Ben David said she is now facing an involuntary manslaughter charge.

In court Boddiford’s bond was set at $100,000. Her public defender asked the bond to be lowered from $150,000.
