Police: Man shot, then lied

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police said a man is recovering from a gunshot wound.

A WPD spokeswoman said it happened just before 9 p.m. in the 700-block of Red Cross Street. Police said the man reported he was shot in the thigh after leaving his friends house. He told police he was on his scooter and provided a description of the suspect, but police said he gave them an address that didn’t exist.

Officers said the man then told them he was actually trying to buy heroin when he got shot. No charges have been filed in the case.
