UPDATE: Father, son identified in deadly jet ski accident

SUNSET BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The holiday weekend begins with a deadly accident in Sunset Beach.

Brunswick County Coroner said John Wernowsky, 51, and his son Jake, 10, were on a jet ski when it hit the fishing pier at the Wildlife Resource Commission Boat Ramp. A town spokesperson said that pier is closed until further notice. The father and son were from Acworth, Georgia.

Officials got the call around 2:20 p.m. Two people on a nearby jet ski were also hurt.
