James to leave Kure Beach town administrator position early

Kure Beach is parting ways with its town administrator. Tuesday night, the town council approved Michelle James’s proposal to leave her job November 20th, instead of waiting until her contract ends in January. She’ll get a three-month severance package after she leaves.

James told WWAY her decision was based on her belief that the town administrator job did not fit for Kure Beach.

She said she was hired two years ago to help transition from a mayor-council form of government, to a manager-council set-up, but she said the experiment did not work.

A decision whether to hire a new administrator will be left until a new council takes office after next month’s election.
