CFPUA cuts ribbon on new water filtration plant

If you receive water services from the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority, you may have noticed your water has gotten a little softer.

The Cape Fear Public Utility Authority cut the ribbon Friday on their new nano-filtration plant. The plant was designed to soften the water for the customers.

“Nano is also referred to as the softening membrane. One of the primary purposes is to soften the water to take the hardness out, the calcium content, and to make it softer so you don’t have the spotting and the film that gets on the car, the windshield, glass and things of that nature. Makes the water easier to use and not have to be soften at the home,” said drinking water superintendent Mike Richardson.

The plant is only providing service to the north side of the county right now. Eventually, they plan to interconnect the surface and ground water system to transfer water back and fourth to service everyone.
