WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — In a move echoing last summer’s budget discussions, the county’s $317 million 2016-17 fiscal year budget, which includes a 4.9-cent tax increase, was adopted Monday, despite two county commissioners voting no without any comment.

Commissioners Woody White and Skip Watkins sat silent during Monday morning’s meeting as the rest of the board spoke in favor of the spending plan, which takes effect July 1.

The budget passed 3-2, with White and Watkins voting against the budget for the second straight year. Last year, they took issue with a 2-cent tax increase.
