NC checks social workers’ contact at girl’s home

FAYETTEVILLE — The father of a dead North Carolina girl isn’t second-guessing his decision to let 5-year-old Shaniya Davis live with the mother accused of prostituting her.

Bradley Lockhart said on NBC’s “Today” show Tuesday that he last saw Shaniya in early October as he left for an out-of-state work assignment. The girl moved in with 25-year-old Antoinette
Davis about a week later.

Lockhart says he regrets how the decision turned out, but thought he was making the right choice at the time. He says he doesn’t think he missed any signs that Shaniya would be at risk.

Davis was charged last week with human trafficking and child abuse by prostitution of her daughter.

Mario McNeill is charged with murder, rape and kidnapping.
