Clarification on new laws surrounding license plates and texting

WWAY would like to clarify something we reported on Monday in regards to some of the new state laws.

Starting Tuesday, license plate frames cannot cover the state name or stickers displaying the year and month on license plates. The law, though, provides for a year-long grace period during which law enforcement will give you just a warning. After November 30th of next year you will get a ticket and a fine.

The new law banning texting, e-mailing and surfing the internet on your phone while driving does not have a grace period. You can face a $100 fine and $130 in court costs for breaking that law starting Tuesday.
