Wilmington City Council discusses balancing budget

The new look Wilmington City Council held it’s first retreat Thursday. Newly elected members Charlie Rivenbark and Kevin O’Grady took part in the discussion.

The council looked at Wilmington’s financial standing, with an eye towards the 2010 fiscal year.

Rivenbark said the council faces a difficult task of balancing the upcoming budget. “There’s a lot about our town that works. In down times like this, and we’ve been through them before, you can’t just fold up your tent and go home. You have to continue to deliver the services,” Rivenbark said.

After several service cuts in the 2009 budget, council is trying to come up with new ways to balance the budget without making deeper cuts or raising taxes.
