7-year-old NC girl shot, wounded at skating rink

CHARLOTTE — Authorities in North Carolina’s largest city are looking for a suspect after a 7-year-old girl was shot in the leg by a stray bullet at a roller skating rink.

The Charlotte Observer reported Sunday that Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said the girl’s injuries weren’t life threatening.

A suspect has been identified, but police are not revealing his name.

Capt. Michelle Hummel said officers were called to the Starlight Roller Rink Saturday afternoon. Hummel said two men got into an argument just after 5 p.m. One man pulled out a gun, which went off.

The girl was shot once in the right leg just above the knee by the bullet. She was in stable condition at Carolinas Medical Center. Hummel said the 7-year-old didn’t know either of the men.
