Local farmers face problems with too much rain

We know that rain is vital to growing crops, but too much rain? That is the problem some local farmers are facing.

At Sunny Rowe Farm Market in Rocky Point, owner David Rowe said they have had 15 inches of rain since September. That is taking a toll on his greens and strawberries. He said his business was 40 percent better last year.

“We need maybe a half inch a week or a half inch every two weeks. But we just had extreme amounts of torrential rain. Basically, it is too much rain that falls. It creates a lot of problems,” said Rowe.

Some farmers who grow soy beans and cotton are also experiencing problems because the machinery is too difficult to use in the muddy fields.
