American-born citizens try their hand at U.S. citizenship test
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For many Independence Day is a time to reflect on what it means to be an American, for others it means becoming an American.
According to the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services each year they welcome about 680,000 citizens during naturalization ceremonies across the county and around the world. That includes the naturalization ceremony that happens in Southport each year around the Fourth of July.
Part of becoming a citizen is taking a test. Topics range from current government to United States history.
According to USCIS as of 2015 the national pass rate for the citizenship test is 91%. The guidelines say six out of ten questions must be answered correctly to pass.
