NC House member Justus won’t seek re-election
HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — A North Carolina state House member says she won’t run for re-election this year, in part because she’s tired of the commute from the mountains to Raleigh.
The Times-News of Hendersonville reported Friday that Rep. Carolyn Justus is ready to spend more time with her children after living out of her suitcase for years during legislative sessions.
The Henderson County Republican worked as a legislative aide for her husband, Larry, who served 18 years in the House until he died in office in 2002. She was named his successor, then won re-election for three more terms.
The 64-year-old Justus says she’ll miss working on solving problems for her constituents.
Henderson County commissioner Chuck McGrady says he’s considering a bid to succeed Justus.
