Tomey plans State Senate run
Two weeks after Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo said he will not run for State Senate, one of his City Council colleagues says she will. Kristi Tomey told WWAY today she plans to run for the 9th District seat currently held by Julia Boseman. Boseman announced last year she will not seek reelection because she and her partner are having a baby.
Tomey says her service on city council will help her if elected to the State Senate.
“I’ve been in municipal government,” Tomey said, “and I know what it takes for cities to run and municipalities to run and how important our representatives in Raleigh are.”
Tomey is not affiliated with any political party, so she’s required to get about six-thousand signatures supporting her candidacy. Tomey plans to file her petition request at the Board of Elections tomorrow. The filing period for candidates begins February 8.
