Crash on US 74 ties up eastbound traffic

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A tractor trailer driver has been charged in a crash on US 74 East that involved a total of four vehicles, and tied up traffic for miles.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the driver of the tractor trailer was attempting to make a U-turn onto US 74 East around 8am Thursday and turned into the path of a pickup truck. The pickup truck struck the flatbed trailer the truck was pulling.

Traffic began backing up from that crash. The driver of a gray sedan was stopped for the traffic backup when another driver in a black sedan struck that vehicle.

The driver of the pickup truck involved in the initial crash was taken to Novant NHRMC. His condition is unknown at this time. The other drivers involved in the two crashes were uninjured.

According to NCHP, the driver of the the tractor trailer will be charged with Failure to Yield Right of Way.
