Inspections on CFMB cause traffic issues

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Inspections on the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge caused issues as the work week started back.

According to the NCDOT, yearly inspections on the elevator caused crews to close an eastbound lane of US 74 for several hours during the day. A NCDOT spokesman said they were not planning to close any lanes Tuesday. For this inspection, the spokesman said the work was completed. They were inspecting the elevator used for equipment, not the mechanics involved in raising and lowering the bridge.

The spokesman said the need for clarification of the project and its time frame is why the notice was last-minute.
