McGee ready to move on as tenure ends

Brunswick County Schools Superintendent Katie McGee says she is ready for the next chapter in her life, but says she does not want more publicity as she leaves the school district. McGee announced her resignation last week effective Sunday.

In an e-mail to WWAY declining an interview request, McGee wrote:

“I have loved every minute of my 10.5 years in the Brunswick County Schools and I am so proud of the accomplishments that came as a result of real teamwork – every division and every school in Brunswick County is equipped with the finest professionals you’ll find anywhere. I am leaving the county with so many colleagues who will be my lifelong friends, students who are now successful adults and I am equipped as a school Superintendent to handle most anything that comes my way thanks to the time I’ve spent here. I am a better person because of the experiences in this great school district. I plan to spend my remaining days this week working just as hard as I’ve worked the past decade and will slip away quietly in the next few days when I complete the last item on my things to do list! It has been an exciting journey and I look forward to the next chapter in my life.”

McGee’s decision to leave came after the School Board decided last fall not to renew her contract, which was to expire this summer.
