Wilmington medical teams home from Haiti
A group of doctors and nurses returned to Wilmington yesterday from their relief mission in Haiti. They spent four days in Cap-Haitian.
The medical teams brought supplies, antibiotics and medical care the area 80 miles north of Port-au-Prince. The teams saw about 140 patients and performed 20 surgeries.
Dr. Ken White helped organize the mission and says the first trip was the start to a long-term relief effort.
“It’s humbling more than anything, because number one you always wish you could do more,” White said. “Everybody feels that way and it reminds you that even Jesus couldn’t treat everybody. That’s the only way you can get through it. We’re gonna try and keep this project going from a long-term goal and some short-term goals.”
White says they are hoping to get back to Haiti in about 15 days.
