E-mail leads to tiff between school board members

A New Hanover County School Board member is demanding an apology from a fellow member of the board after a misunderstanding online.

Nick Rhodes says he thought Janice Cavenaugh was using the school system’s public relations staff to notify the media about her reelection campaign. So he sent out an e-mail saying what she did was unethical and possibly illegal and suggested that Cavenaugh be publicly reprimanded.

As it turns out, the only thing Cavenaugh got from the PR staff was an e-mail contact list for the media, and she sent out the reelection announcement herself.

Today Cavenaugh sent out another e-mail to Wilmington reporters and school board members asking Rhodes to retract his e-mail.

Rhodes told WWAY the next time he sees Cavenaugh, he will apologize.
