North Carolina plant closing to eliminate 40 jobs
SPARTA, N.C. — The closing of a plant near the North Carolina-Virginia state line will eliminate 40 jobs.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported that Martin Marietta Composites said Tuesday it is closing its plant in Sparta that makes pedestrian bridge decks, commercial truck trailers and blast resistant panels.
Chief financial officer Anne Lloyd says the company is dropping the product line because of a lack of demand.
Employees will receive severance packages.
Martin Marietta had taken over the plant in 2003.
