Judges to hear murder case from NC innocence panel

RALEIGH, N.C. — A three-judge panel in North Carolina is readying to hear arguments in the case of a convicted murderer whose guilt has been questioned by a state panel.

The North Carolina Innocence Inquiry Commission pressed for Tuesday’s hearing in Raleigh so the judges can consider the case of Greg Taylor. The Cary man has spent more than 16 years in prison for a 1991 stabbing and beating death of a woman.

The commission found enough evidence to warrant a review of the case. Another man has confessed to the crime.

But Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby says he’s skeptical, partly because the other man has confessed to almost 70 other crimes.

North Carolina is the only state with a government agency dedicated to verifying claims of innocence.
