Molestation trial for Leland dance instructor ends in mistrial
BOLIVIA, NC (StarNews) — The sexual molestation trial of a Leland dance instructor ended in a mistrial Thursday morning after alleged misconduct by a juror in the case, according to Brunswick County Superior Court Judge Ola Lewis.
A former student of Jamie Watson took the witness stand Wednesday to tell a jury the popular teacher molested her on five occasions in 2012. The girl, now 16, was expected to resume her testimony Thursday.
Watson, 40, is charged with four counts of first-degree sexual offense against a child, two counts of indecent liberties with a child and one count of soliciting a sexual offense with a child. He was arrested on some of the charges in 2012. In April 2015, after a second girl came forward, Watson was jailed again. He’s currently out on bail.
At the time of the alleged offenses one girl was 12 and the other 15.
