GlenCare investigation update PLUS DSS / DHHS investigation documents
Yesterday afternoon, GlenCare owner Glen Kornegay faxed over this statement:
"We are taking all allegations seriously. We have hired a highly skilled professional to investigate the allegations and to determine the validity if any. We have always taken excellent care of our residents and we continue to do so. We are exercising our right to appeal any findings by the State and we are confident that any substantiated findings will be addressed appropriately. To date, findings as stated have not been substantiated. We are not prepared to make any comments at this time until the investigation is completed and the facts are discovered."
GlenCare is currently in the midst of three different appeals. The first is from an investigation the New Hanover County Department of Social Services did in 2009 – citing GlenCare for three Type A violations – the most serious violation an assisted living facility can receive. The state then fined GlenCare $2,000 for the violations.
GlenCare is also appealing the state’s decision on Friday 2/12 to not allow it to accept any new residents – and the intention to revoke GlenCare’s license to operate 10 days from Friday 2/12.
We want our viewers to know that we have repeatedly asked Glen Kornegay to sit down with us and dicuss these issues. Both Joe Mauceri and I have had phone conversations with Mr. Kornegay. Each time he has accused us of only reporting the story the way we want – and has refused to be interviewed. I even offered Mr. Kornegay the opportunity to be live during one of our newscasts – so there could be no perception of spin or creative editing. Again, he refused.
On Tuesday, Joe went to GlenCare personally to try and talk to him about the state’s decisions. Mr. Korengay went to get his wife Ann, who then bluntly told Joe and his photographer to get out. Both the Kornegays, any current or former employee, or any family member with a resident at GlenCare, who would like to sit down and talk with us have an open invitation to do so at any time.
