Police investigating early-morning armed robbery

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police are searching for the man who robbed a fast-food restaurant this morning.

A police spokeswoman says it happened at 5:08 a.m. at the Burger King on S. 16th Street.

Police say an employee was at the front entrance when a man came around the side of the building and pointed a gun at her.  He pushed the employee’s head into the glass door and forced her into the building.

Police say he tried to get her to open the safe but she could not.  Instead, he took money from the cash drawers and then ran off toward a wooded area.

He’s described as a black male, between 5’5″ and 5’8″, with a green shirt wrapped around his head. He was wearing a black shirt and black pants with a skinny build.
