School boards discuss superintendent searches

The New Hanover County School Board is still trying to decide how to pick its next superintendent. Last night the board decided to conduct a national search, which is something it did not do when it hired Al Lerch for the job in 2007.

A district spokeswoman said board chair Ed Higgins is checking with the North Carolina School Board association about helping in the process. The school board meets again April 6.

Meanwhile the Brunswick County School Board will spend the weekend interviewing candidates for its superintendent opening. The school board has scheduled in-person interviews with ten applicants Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The board hopes to name Katie McGee’s replacement by mid-April.
