‘We are Williston’ event aims to bring students and community members together

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Staff at Williston Middle School hosted a community open house called “We are Williston” to invite people to the school and give them a chance to get involved.

Laura Butler, seventh grade teacher, said she invited business owners, law enforcement, university staff members and others to the event, in order to strengthening those relationships or building new ones.

“We are having a community open house. We have invited the community to come in to collaborate with us,” said Butler. “It’s vital, we have good community support but I believe we can do better.”

Butler said she hopes meetings like this will encourage people to volunteer their time and service.

A sentiment Principal Ron Villines echoes.

“We are looking to bring the community back into the school,” said Villines. “We know that as we move forward with student success it takes all of us.”
