Crews burn Castle Hayne Park

You could see smoke from a prescribed burn in Castle Hayne as far away as the Wilmington International Airport today.

The state Forest Service scorched the underbrush at Castle Hayne park in an effort to minimize the risk of wildfires. Removing the undergrowth also makes it easier for native plants to grow in the park.

The Castle Hayne Fire Department and the Forest Service were on hand.
