WPD officers make weed bust Saturday night

Wilmington Police officers seized ten pounds of marijuana Saturday night after stopping a car in the 5100 block of Market Street.

Officers stopped a Honda Accord for a safe movement violation at about 8:00 p.m. During the stop, officers determined that both the driver ( Lshanna Chauntay Hooper , d.o.b. 3-4-1977) and the passenger ( Nakia Dirahn Hooper , d.o.b. 12-20-1974) had prior drug arrests. A police K-9 was used to check the vehicle for the presence of narcotics, and the K-9 alerted on the trunk of the car. When the trunk was opened, officers discovered ten large bags of marijuana.

Both occupants were arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Sell / Deliver Marijuana, Maintaining a Vehicle for Drugs and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Lshanna Hooper of Winnabow posted a $30,000 bond. Nakia Hooper of Wilmington is still in the New Hanover County detention facility under $50,000 bond.
