128 affordable housing units approved in northern New Hanover County
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioners voted four to one in favor of approving a rezoning request for a non-profit organization’s plan to construct 128 affordable housing units in the northern part of the county.
The property earmarked for this development is located at the 3100 block of Blue Clay Road.
The organization behind this initiative, known as “New Helping Ordinary People Excel Community Development Corporation,” says these housing units will cater to essential workforce members earning annual incomes between $31,000 and $74,000.
According to New Hope CDC, the prospective residents of these units could include a diverse range of essential workers, spanning from teachers, firefighters, police officers, and sheriff’s deputies to wait staff at local eateries, bank tellers, grocery store clerks, mechanics, and even journalists.
