FIRST ON 3: Wrightsboro Elementary totally closing because of mold issue
Recently, New Hanover County Schools announced the finding of mold in two buildings at Wrightsboro Elementary School. As a result, kindergarten classes were relocated to Castle Hayne Elementary School.
Additional testing for mold was conducted on the remaining buildings on the Wrightsboro campus. Today, the district received the results of that testing, which indicates elevated levels of mold spores in several buildings. The testing was done by Phoenix Enviro Corp. of Wilmington.
As a result of these test results, NHCS has decided to close the Wrightsboro school campus for the remainder of the academic year starting on Friday, March 19, 2009.
Students in grades 1-5 will not attend school starting tomorrow, March 19, 2010, through Friday, April 2, 2010. (The NHCS spring break is March 29-April 2nd.)
When students in grades 1-5 resume school on April 5, 2010, they will be relocated to the new Holly Shelter Middle School until the end of the current school year.
The kindergarten students will not be affected. They will continue attending Castle Hayne Elementary School as they have done since February 15, 2010.
