Man who started deadly fires in Carolina Beach also pleads guilty to fatal crash
RALEIGH (WTVD) – The man who killed two good Samaritans in a 2014 wreck appeared at the Wake County Justice Center Monday and pleaded guilty.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol says Marshall Doran was driving under the influence at the time of the February 2014 crash along Interstate 40 in Raleigh.
Authorities have said Doran ran off the road to avoid a vehicle that had spun out on the road, but instead hit the two good Samaritans who were helping the stuck vehicle. Doran fled the scene, but was later arrested.
The good Samaritans – Navy sailor Nathaniel Williams, 43, of Hope Mills, and truck driver Larry Kepley, 39, of Winston Salem, died at the scene.
Earlier this month, Doran pleaded guilty in New Hanover County court to setting fires in Carolina Beach that killed two women. A judge sentenced him to two consecutive life terms.
