McIntyre says area supports his “no” vote

It’s been nearly a week since President Obama signed the health care reform bill into law. The vote in Congress came along party lines, but our representative, Democrat Mike McIntyre, went against his party to vote no.

McIntyre was one of just 34 Democrats who voted “no” to the health care bill. He says he has a lot of people backing him up.

McIntyre is a conservative “Blue Dog Democrat,” and says his big concern is the cost of the bill. He says it is going to cost nearly one trillion dollars.

“Throughout Southeastern North Carolina, I’ve gotten very positive feedback about my vote against this particular type of health care reform bill,” McIntyre said. “There’s no doubt that we’ve got to deal with health care reform, but the question is how we do it, and this particular vehicle of doing it was not the way to go.”

McIntyre says he’s been hearing from a lot of business owners concerned about being able to meet mandates required by the new health care bill. He says right now we need to create more jobs and fix the economy.

So how do we do that? Cape Fear Community College’s North Campus is hosting a Green Job Summit April 19. McIntyre says the abundance of biotechnology and biofuels in this part of the state give us the chance to create more jobs.
